How to Boost Resilience During Challenging Times
There are many ways to build, strengthen and boost resilience during challenging times.
Resilience is the process of adapting to adversity, challenges or any sources of stress that come your way. Becoming more resilient helps you work through difficult situations, helps you grow and improves your quality of life.
Whether you’re going through a challenging time now or you want to be prepared for life’s inevitable ups and downs, here are some ways to boost resilience in your everyday life.
Lean on Your Connections
Find someone you trust, whom you can talk with openly. This will help build your support and safety net.
Learn a new Coping Skill
Whether it’s controlled breathing, mindfulness, or meditation, these techniques can help you feel calm and stay centered when you feel stressed.
Make time for Self-Care
Neglecting your essential needs (exercise/healthy eating/good sleep) could drain your emotional energy, impacting your ability to respond to the challenges you face. Put some time for self-care into your routine every day. Self-care is not selfish.
Challenge Negative Self-Talk
When you hear negative comments in your head like “I’m weak,” try replacing them with more compassionate ones, such as, “I know this is a tough situation that many other people would struggle with too.”
Accept Change
Flexibility is key. Learning how to be more adaptable to change means you’ll be better equipped to navigate new challenges.
Hone your problem-solving skills
Being able to come up with solutions to a problem means you’ll be better at coping when challenging situations arise. Breaking them down into manageable steps will help you feel less overwhelmed.
Resilience can take time to build, please be kind and patient with yourself as you strengthen and boost your resilience.
