Written by Katie Dobinson, clinical psychologist at THIS WAY UP

Imagine you’re relaxing into your favourite, comfy couch at home. It’s that familiar, trusted spot where you’ve read books, binged your favourite TV shows, and maybe even dozed off after a busy day. This time, however, your couch isn’t just a place for relaxation—it’s transformed into your very own therapy couch, a safe space where you can embark on a journey of self-discovery, knowledge and empowerment!

This is what THIS WAY UP’s digital mental health service offers you—a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)-based therapeutic experience as personalised, comfortable, and intimate as a one-on-one session with a therapist. All without leaving the comfort of your own couch.

Are you sitting with these feelings…

  • Persistently low, sad, and down or perhaps angry and irritated
  • Noticing you aren’t enjoying the things you used to
  • Often experiencing negative thoughts
  • Struggling with a loss of sleep despite feeling exhausted, or sleeping more than usual
  • Changes in your appetite, either eating more or less than usual

You could be sitting on an opportunity for change…

These symptoms indicate that you’re having a tough time, and might be experiencing depression. Depression is very common, and it can take 8 years on average for someone to seek help when they feel this way. CBT is one of the most effective psychological treatments for depression. Our online CBT treatment program for Depression uses strategies to help target the thoughts, feelings and behaviours associated with low mood. Depression is a treatable condition, and many individuals find relief through therapy (whether face-to-face or online), medication, or a combination of both. These symptoms indicate that you’re having a tough time, and might be experiencing generalised anxiety. Generalised anxiety disorder (GAD) is the most common form of anxiety and is characterised by persistent, excessive, and uncontrollable worrying about everyday events and activities. Like depression, it can take an average of 8 years to seek help. But there is help available at your fingertips. Online CBT is an excellent treatment for anxiety, alone or in conjunction with medication. CBT involves learning skills that can combat negative thoughts and manage the emotions of fear, guilt, and dread that are common in anxiety. It can also help you re-engage in activities you may have stopped doing because of anxiety or worry. Take a look at our online CBT-based treatment program here.

  • An inability to relax at the end of the day

Stress is a normal part of the modern world we live in. However, stress becomes problematic when it is ongoing and makes you feel overwhelmed or anxious. CBT helps individuals identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviours that contribute to stress. Through CBT you’ll learn practical strategies to cope with stress, such as problem-solving techniques, time management skills, and relaxation exercises. You’ll also learn to develop a more balanced and realistic perspective on your stressors, which can, in turn, reduce stress. Take a look at our online CBT-based treatment program here.

Are you sitting with these feelings…

  • Tiredness, even when you get enough sleep
  • Anxiety over going to bed and not being able to get to sleep
  • Irritability and lethargy due to broken or restless sleep

Insomnia_Program

You could be sitting on an opportunity for change…

Insomnia can have a huge effect on your mental and physical health. Fortunately, insomnia can be treated effectively and many people who seek help get their sleep back on track and improve their overall health. CBT can show you how to work with your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours so you can improve your sleep long into the future. It starts by helping you recognise and challenge negative thoughts and worries about sleep. Insomnia often involves anxiety about not being able to sleep, and these concerns can make the problem worse. CBT for Insomnia teaches you to reframe and reevaluate these thoughts. Take a look at our online CBT-based treatment program here.
