Course Information


University can be a stressful, but rewarding experience! Whether you’ve just enrolled, or are finishing your final year, there can be a lot of demands to juggle. So, together with students, we’ve developed this Student Wellbeing Program to help you manage your stress and take control of your wellbeing – so that you can get the most out of your university experience!

Who will find this course useful?

This course is intended to help university students who would like to boost their mental wellbeing and/or reduce their stress levels.

Course duration

This course is self-paced and designed to be completed within 3 months. We recommend completing one module every week. However, you can complete the course as quickly or as slowly as you like within the 3 months. Once you complete all 8 modules, you will be granted an extra 12 months access to the course so that you can practise and review the skills covered in the course.

How much will it cost?

This course is free.

What type of support will I receive?

This is a self-guided course. To help you keep on track, you will receive emails and SMS reminders to complete your next available module.

How is the course structured?

Online Questionnaires

Our online questionnaires help to establish how you are feeling. You will receive an email notification from THIS WAY UP if your scores are elevated.

Comic-Based Stories

Throughout this course, you will follow an illustrated story of a student as they learn skills to help them overcome their struggles at university.

Tailored Modules

There are 8 modules. Once you complete a module, the next one will become available. Each module focuses skills and strategies to improve a specific component of mental wellbeing. Examples of modules include: Understanding Yourself, Creating Healthy Routines and Studying Smart.

Action Plans

At the end of each module, you’ll have a brief Action Plan to help you apply what you have learnt to your own life.

Extra Resources

This course also has extra resources, such as mindfulness audio guides and activity worksheets, to help you apply the skills you learn throughout this course to your own life.

Module Information

What modules will the course cover?

Module 1

Understanding Yourself – Learning how stress works and the importance of balancing your demands and resources.

Module 2

Healthy Thinking – Tackling unhelpful thinking styles that can increase stress and lower wellbeing.

Module 3

Healthy Routines – Establishing a healthy, sustainable routine, to balance your many demands whilst still making time to relax and have fun.

Module 4

Healthy Coping – Making helpful changes and tackling problems head-on using Structured Problem Solving and SMART goal-setting.

Module 5

Healthy Body – Taking care of your mind by taking care of your body – improving sleep, eating, and exercise.

Module 6

Study Smart – Learning how procrastination works, and how to overcome procrastination using practical cognitive and behavioural strategies.

Module 7

Zen Out, Chill Out – Trying some effective mindfulness and relaxation based exercises that can help you destress.

Module 8

Creating Connections – Strengthening your existing relationships and creating new connections.
