Take The Stress Out of Buying Gifts This Christmas.

Buying gifts can be stressful at the best of times, let alone at Christmas time. Strained finances and knowing what to buy can all negatively impact upon our levels of stress. To help, we have put together a number of tips for reducing stress this festive season.

Finances
If you find yourself stressed over finances during the holiday season, our friends at mindhealthconnect have a number of helpful strategies you can employ to help ease the worry.

Identify what’s causing you financial stress. Buying gifts and attending social gatherings can be expensive. Plan ways to reduce spending. For example, you could suggest to your family and friends that you only buy gifts for the kids, or organise a ‘Secret Santa’ among the adults. Set a budget and stick to it.

Find low cost ways to have fun. Don’t let money get in the way. If you can’t afford expensive restaurant meals or cocktail catch-ups, organise a BBQ in the park or a party at home where everyone brings a plate of food.

Gift-buying
Research has shown that people appreciate receiving gifts that are on their wish list more than surprise gifts and also perceive the requested gifts to be more thoughtful and considerate.

This means you can take out the guess work and some of the stress of buying gifts by simply asking someone what they really want this Christmas. However, make sure you discuss an affordable budget with those you are exchanging gifts with in order to minimise financial stress.
